The Problem

Securing Safe Food connects allergen-free food donations from manufacturers to food pantries nationwide. They needed an efficient way to track ingress and egress donations, orders, and food requests from pantries in their partner network.

The Solution

A single platform with a dashboard for each of the four people involved, including admins, pantries, manufacturers, and volunteers. I refined the admin side by trimming redundant information and filling in gaps, like adding delivery confirmation and a total stock view for allocating excess food.

Iteration

Outcome

Polished an inherited four-role platform into a consistent system, giving admins the delivery confirmation and total stock view they needed to allocate excess food to pantries.

Takeaways

Since I joined mid-project, I had to understand the reasoning behind the existing designs before revising them. That let my changes build on the team’s work instead of undoing it. Polishing four dashboards at once showed me how much consistency matters. Small fixes to shared patterns carried across every user’s experience.

Retrospective

The delivery confirmation and total stock view filled gaps for admins, but I’d like to test them with the people doing allocations to see if they make the work easier in practice. Joining late meant I had little say in early research and IA. Next time I’d ask for the original research up front so my revisions are grounded in what users actually said.
